Holistic Horse Help
Gadebrook Stud
A beautiful sunny day heralded a clinic day at
Gadebrook Stud, which was enjoyed by 4 students and
several spectators. Working with the stunningly
beautiful Arabian horses was a privilege Sue hopes
to repeat. The teachers of the day were of course
the horses, including a young stallion, a mare
being prepared for starting, and a yearling colt.
The human to human exercises helped demonstrate
‘feel’, and a mixture of Sue working with the
horses, giving explanations, and hands on work from
the students meant that everyone went home with new
skills to put into practice.
Rycote
Although torrential rain threatened to spoil the
day, the sun came out just in time for Sue, Simon
and Jo to enjoy some cross country schooling at
Rycote schooling course, near Thame. Working both
from the ground and from in the saddle, horses and
riders thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and thanks to
Simon’s photographic skills, came home with the
pictures to prove it!
From Groundwork to Ridden
Over 60 people attended this 2hr demonstration to
understand more about the principles of Intelligent
Horsemanship and how they can be applied at home,
both in groundwork and ridden work. Belvedere
(Sue’s horse) was of course the star of the show
(and she knows it!). To see more, click on ‘HHH
videos’.
Touring with Monty Roberts
It is a privilege to be part of the team touring
with Monty Roberts, although probably the most
exhausting thing that Sue and Simon have ever
done. How Monty manages to keep going all
year round is beyond them! The Autumn Tour
reached over 15,000 people, and the February Tour
thousands more. Join Sue and Simon on tour
again in Autumn, Sue will be manning the IH
Village, and Simon high above the audience filming
or taking pictures. For a list of dates and
venues visit
www.intelligenthorsemanship.co.uk.
South Oxfordshire Summer Camp
Sue and Simon’s recent visit to South Oxfordshire
Riding Club Camp at Milton Keynes was a resounding
success. Sue was kept busy from dawn til dusk each
day massaging the horses (and one dog!), while
Simon caught the best aspects of each session on
camera. The photographs were so popular that Simon
was kept up until midnight with riders wanting to
look at their pictures! If you'd like to see them
as well, visit

Clinic at Towersey, nr Thame, Oxon
The Spook Busting clinic at Towersey was great fun!
The highlight has to be Simon pretending to be a
tractor! There was a good reason for it – one of
the horses was good in every way except having an
issue with buckets at the front of tractors. So
Simon found a ‘bucket like object’, and proceeded
to ‘be a tractor’! There was of course much
merriment, but of course with sensitive use of
approach and retreat, the work was very effective
and the horse much more relaxed.
Basic Massage Course
Participants at the Basic Massage and Stretching
Techniques for the Horse Lover didn’t only learn to
massage their horses, they learned the massage
moves on each other – always a favourite part of
the course! Chalking the muscles onto the horses in
the afternoon is always a messy procedure, but the
new skills stick in the mind. The horses’ belonging
to the participants are no doubt enjoying their
owners’ new found knowledge!
Equine Touch Conference
Simon attended the Equine Touch Annual Conference
at the British Racing School, to listen, learn, and
of course film. Details of when the DVD of
the event will be available through the IETA
organisation will be posted soon, keep an eye on
Simon’s website,

Natural Horse Sense Weekend
The Perfect Manners Introductory Workshop and
Perfect Partners Introductory Workshops were full,
and produced the usual amount of inspiration.
Working with Jack and Bones (Sandra’s horses) gave
students the opportunity to slow right down and
take the time to listen to the horse. Once you
understand what it is that you’re saying to the
horse (or at least, how we believe that he
perceives us), it becomes so much easier to
communicate. We have become so used to ‘white
noise’ in the human world that it’s easy to forget
it doesn’t work that way for horses.
Special Olympics - Equestrian Event
Sue was privileged to be a part of the Special
Olympics Equestrian Event held at Grasslands
Equestrian Centre near Peterborough recently.
42 riders with learning disabilities took part in
dressage, trail riding and horse care
competitions. Sue worked with groups of 6 at
a time, giving a long lining demonstration around a
tricky obstacle course, then the competitors had a
go at long lining around the same course, with a
fellow competitor taking the place of the
horse. A great time was had by all, many
thanks to Julia Cooper and Maurice Simmons for
inviting Holistic Horse Help to be part of the
competition.
